January 2008 Feature - Shirt from Hiroshima, 2007

Art Cries Out members have chosen to feature an artist's struggles with art against nuclear weaponry for its January 2008 feature.

Member Artist Leonard Meiselman shows us his "Painting - In - Progress" of a child's shirt he viewed while visiting the Peace Museum at Ground Zero in Hirshima in 2004.

Leonard,

These are beautifully horrific paintings, thank you for sharing your vision with the world. I'm reminded of Jim Dine's Robe series, but your paintings have meaning for more than just the artist. Deep, dark, and timeless. I could see this shirt in the sands of Afghanistan today. Sad, but necessary. Thanks again.
